On the pre-Abraham origins of circumcision. Another cultural activity that was practiced for thousands of years before it was borrowed into Israelite practice and religion. I didn’t know that till recently.

I don’t think that necessarily presents a challenge to any reading of the text. But it is interesting that what became treated as the special covenantal sign, wasn’t so special.
