Rev Richard Holloway is a respected Scottish theologian and who began his spiritual journey in monastic training as a young teenager. Ordained in 1959, he went on to served as Anglican Bishop of Edinburgh and led the Scottish Episcopal Church as Primus. His ministry emphasized practical Christian compassion, notably co-founding Shelter Scotland to combat homelessness and serving Glasgow’s impoverished Gorbals community. Now an agnosticm, Holloway’s writings, including Leaving Alexandria: A Memoir of Faith and Doubt (2013), reflect his lifelong engagement with theology and the challenges of sustaining faith.
